I sat next to Jackie for three years in homeroom at Tascosa. At first he was very quiet and kind of hard to get to know. Later in our sophomore year he opened up and we became friends. We became closer friends in our junior year and in our senior year I couldn't shut him up. He was hilarious. He told me about how he intended to join the Navy just out of high school and the Navy was his career ambition. I questioned and kidded him about how a guy from Amarillo could possibly be interested in the Navy. I haven't seen Jackie in over fifty years now and I've wondered if he did join the Navy and how his life went. He was a very good guy and had a lot to offer after you got past that shyness.
