Am I the only one who was bothered by the way they changed the school after we graduated? I'm talking about how they changed good ole Johnny Reb and along those lines.

A sign of the times, some of us don't know, what changes were made.

Tom -

Change seems to often be difficult.  I know many thought our mascot to be offensive so they changed it to the rebel kid.  For me, it wasn't offensive.  I just didn't look at it like some - an approval for slavery.  For me, it just represented our location - the south, dixie, etc.

If I were a black person and had ancestors that were in slavery and still had hard feelings about that, I might not like the mascot either.  But I have not been there so I don't know what that is like.

These days there are changes due to political correctness and perceived prejudice, as well as tolerance for those things against our own beliefs.   So the change in our mascot was among those changes to appease those offended.  But the way I look at it, in the long run, does it really matter that much?  I don't know.

Did the song Shannendoa(sp) have anything to do with the South, or Tascosa?  Cross the wide Missouri, what direction?
